Hey Everyone! Another room makeover coming at you! This time we are over at Kristen’s new home and are going to be finishing off her Sunroom sitting area so they can be sure to enjoy the feel of being outdoors even during the bitterly cold Minnesota winter. We are joining the One Room Challenge again because we love the camaraderie the challenge brings when everyone is making over one room all together. It is fun to follow along with all the other designers and bloggers and know you aren’t the only one on a tight timeline! If you haven’t heard of the One Room Challenge you can read all about it via the link, but essentially the gist is that each person takes one room from their home and restyles it with a 6 week timeline.
Here is what Kristen’s Sunroom looked like on move-in day. It sits in the back of the home, right off the dining and kitchen area. It has lovely large windows on three sides and faces the trees in the backyard, making it very private and a beautiful space to just sit and enjoy. Therefore the space will not have a TV, but the plan was to have lots of seating for everyone to enjoy.
We moved into our new home on April 1st and this room sat empty for a long time. We moved from a much smaller home and of course when you get a bigger home you don’t always have the furniture to fill it! We didn’t mind and knew we would get there eventually. So we took our time and slowly accumulated pieces that we wanted in this room. We did change one thing immediately though – that old looking light fixture! I don’t particularly like bright gold fixtures, and wanted something just a bit larger for this space. So I snatched up THIS light fixture to go in this room and in the entryway.
We are going for a bit of a French Farmhouse look in here. I plan to use french style furniture, complete with curved and ornate lines and mixing it with rustic touches. I have a couple multi drawered cabinets that are pretty rustic and will help to keep it from looking too ‘fancy’ and will blend with the feel of the rest of the home.
Here is a video I took of the sunroom on move-in day!
Here is the plan for this room:
- Paint and Reupholster Bergere chair
- Paint and Reupholster Desk Chair
- Paint the walls
- Find a Hutch
- Refinish multi drawer wood cabinet
- Coffee Table
- New rug
- New lights in Columns
- Decorate
I was able to find a fun bergere style chair at our local Habitat Restore. I also found a small ornate chair for my desk for $5 from a consignment shop! These have terrible fabric on them so needless to say both of these chairs need to be reupholstered. Luckily Vicki and I have experience in upholstery and I have every faith I’ll be able to get these looking how I want!
We have already purchased a couch and love seat which I will be sharing very soon. They were on sale from Ballard Designs and I couldn’t pass them up! So we have a really great start to accumulating furniture already. It did take some time as we wanted to space out paying for the pieces.
I do have to get some kind of hutch piece for one corner in this room, and I think I know what I am going to do. I originally thought I wanted to find something super old and somewhat primitive, but I don’t think that will go quite right in this room. So I think I am going to do something similar to the photo below. That is a hutch top that we actually re-did and sold in our store. AND we actually have another hutch top sitting in our storage area so…I THINK I am going to do the same thing (But possibly different colors) for my sitting room and buy that piece from our store! What do you think?
Well once again we have quite a bit of work to do, and all during a very busy time of the year! Holy smokes…We hope you follow along week to week with us as we make over this room! It will be so nice to have it completed before winter hits, and especially before the Holidays so we have a nice cozy spot in our home to relax.
