What’s your favorite style? Are you in the farmhouse style kick right now? Or maybe French? Modern? MCM? Whatever your style, I feel you can always appreciate a beautifully painted piece that seriously epitomizes how wonderful that style can be.
Here is the boring finish of the before:
This awesome dresser once had one of those old blonde finishes on it. It was like a mask, you could barely see how gorgeous the wood underneath it was. It was in impeccable condition however, so we brought it home despite it’s blonde bearing.
Vicki and I are not really refinishers, we CAN do it, we just don’t particularly like it. We are painters! However, we love the look of stained wood mixed with paint. So whenever we see the potential in a piece to strip the top, or leave some part of the pretty wood grain we try to!
I wasn’t exactly sure what we would find under all that blondish exterior, but once that topped was stripped we were so thrilled! We found what looked to be beautiful oak underneath! My goodness – what luck! We knew the dresser was solid wood, but we couldn’t believe how gorgeous it ended up being!
So we stained the entire top with one of our favorite medium stains. And of course sealed it with many coats to make it super smooth.
The bottom then got painted in a pure white color (no creamy white for this piece)! We loved the full coverage we got with our paint, and didn’t want that blondish finish to come out so we decided not to distress.
While I wished I had a place for this piece in my own home, we knew it wouldn’t take much time at all for it to find it’s forever home. She sold pretty quickly and went to a lovely home where we know she will be appreciated!
We could not be happier with how this makeover went! It was in such nice condition it barely had any prep work (Which I LOVE!) haha! Even though prep work is so important, it is my least favorite part.
