Update: Laundry Room

Oh man am I happy to be writing this post! This is one of the projects I have been meaning to do for SO long, but with life, it just didn’t get done. Well I am happy to announce it FINALLY got done! And it was such a small update too, but made such a big difference.
A lot of you may remember when we moved into our home 5 years ago, one of the first makeovers I tackled was the laundry room. It didn’t need major renovations, but I had a lot of spare time at home during COVID and wanted to add my own touch to the space. During this makeover I decided to paint the tiny countertop around the sink because after I painted the cabinets white it brought out a pink undertone in the countertop that I absolutely hated. (See that post about the countertop HERE)
I knew that painting the countertop was a temporary solution, but it was such a small space that I figured it would be OK for an interim solution. And it did work! The laminate countertop, after the proper prepwork, painted up beautifully.
BUT, it did get really heavy use – I didn’t think it would compare to say our main bathroom or the kitchen which as much more water or would be wiped more. But this particular countertop was the “drop spot” in our home. It is immediately next to our most used door and it constantly got bumped, ran into, sprinkled with water, and paint splattered. After 5 years of heavy use with 3 kiddos it looked like this.

Well I got a wild hair one day and was sick of the laundry room looking scruzzy so I decided to repaint it! All it took was a quick clean and a scuff sand to be sure there weren’t any ridges where the paint was wearing off and I was ready to paint!
I did decide change the color slightly from Fusion Mineral Paint’s “Ash” to Fusion’s “Cast Iron” They are the same dark charcoal grey, but “Cast Iron” is warmer with a brown undertone instead of the grayish/blue undertone of “Ash”.
It was a quick paint job and I was kicking myself after as to why I waited so long to touch this up! I did two coats of paint and so far 3 coats of water-protectant sealant. (I might do one more coat of sealant though just to make it extra tough.)
But holy cow! Why I didn’t do this earlier is beyond me. It was so quick, each coat took 10 minutes tops. I had a system going – change the load of laundry and do a quick coat!
Just this tiny little touch up refresh seriously made me feel so good! It is still a temporary fix compared to real countertop but man that was easy. And honestly this little countertop is not at the top of my priorities list to get replaced in the house. So this refresh was absolutely perfect.
I have one more extremely simple and small update I did to finish up this space and I am very happy with that one as well! I’ll be sure to share that soon.
