Hey Everyone,
It’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted here! This past year has been an absolute whirlwind and it has been tough to keep up with it all. As many of you know, last May my husband and I welcomed our twin boys. (Yay!) At the exact same time Vicki and I were in agreements to purchase a building in our town of Houston to move our growing boutique to. Not only were Vicki and I busy with getting a new space that already had an existing business in it remodeled, but my family went from three to five! Whew! And yes, Twins are completely different from only having one baby!
And as the end of the year is near it is always nice to reflect. The Holiday season is one of my favorites and as I was decorating my home I realized it had been so long since I had shared anything here. That is a big goal of mine for the new year. To continue to share our homes, our favorites, decor, furniture makeovers and our lives. We want to share our evolving building that will house our boutique, as well as more projects in my home – I already know I’d like to update the downstairs bathroom!
So we are going to jump back in with one of my favorite rooms in our home – what we call the sunroom. We shared the makeover of this room last year and there haven’t been any major changes in there this year. (I mean when would I have had time for that!) But I did get the house decorated for Christmas! At least I was able to get that done!
Our sunroom is situated off the back of our home and has windows on three sides. It is private as it faces the woods out back. We primarily use it as a sitting room, we love to have our morning coffee there or sit and visit with guests. It boasts those fabulous French style couches from Ballard Designs that we got last year as well as a few side chairs for plenty of guest seating. All pieces are formed around a rectangular rug facing each other, perfect for chatting.
You can never go wrong with ticking stripe! I made these red ticking stripe pillow covers for myself a few years ago and they are still going strong in my new home for the holiday season. I love changing up my pillows and throws for the season. They add such a different look to my everyday items.
My favorite round coffee table in the center provides space for drinks as well as added cozy-ness. It really helps to tie together all the couches and chairs. I painted it in one of my favorite Fusion colors “Goddess Ashwagandha”. (That color was recently discontinued, but we have just a few pints left at our store as we stocked up before it was done!) On top of the coffee table the antique wood bowl and seltzer bottle are items I normally have in there, I just added a green Christmas tree, mercury glass tree and some juniper greenery around the bottom. I wanted to mix and match elegant decor with rustic as that is the aesthetic I have going on in this room.
My hutch top I transformed last year got just a few items switched out, but the majority of the antique items always stay there! That makes it very easy to change just a few things out. I added in the white tree, mercury glass trees, the tall snowy trees on top as well as a bunch of greenery. And almost everything in or around that hutch are items you can frequently find at our boutique. Antique Ironstone, crates, wrapped bottles and the French market basket. I made the white tree inside as well as the red plaque on top. The mercury glass trees as well as all of the greenery were bought from our store.
This crate sitting on top is an antique Belgium crate I purchased from a fabulous boutique I found on Instagram. I gave that to myself last year for Christmas! And it found the perfect spot in my sunroom. I just absolutely adore decorating my home with antiques. I am blessed that I frequently have the opportunity to shop for them as it is a part of my job for our boutique! I’ll admit, Vicki and I sometimes steal the best pieces for ourselves – how can we not?!
This French market basket (below) sits next to my hutch year round. I don’t even need to think about what goes in there anymore, I have faux florals or greenery for each season! It basically takes the place of a vase for me as I love the color and texture it brings to a space.
Below you catch a peek into my dining room – to the right of the table takes you into the kitchen space. I have not touched the kitchen in this house yet so therefore haven’t shared it with our readers yet. It’s not that it is a bad kitchen, but I struggle with it as I don’t feel like it is mine quite yet. I plan to update it eventually, but I feel like I can’t do that until we are ready for new countertops. I’m afraid if I paint the cabinets the countertops will look pink again like they did in my laundry room. See what I’m talking about HERE.
And on the other wall, across from the hutch is my husbands desk. In real life this desk is usually piled with papers and my husbands computer items, but I was able to get it cleared off for the Christmas season! It also got some mercury glass trees, greenery and a little wreath over the antique mirror.
I absolutely adore having a tree in this room! I got an LED pre-lit green tree for this room as I have a snowy one in the living room. But this one is super pretty in this room with all of it’s little twinkly lights! It looks even better when it’s glowing at night.
And below you can see that just adding in greenery for the season really changes up your decor. Those little real touch pine picks in the antique typewriter are my absolute favorite! They also came from our boutique, and I feel like I just need more and more of them. I could probably find spots for about 10 more of those cute little picks!
We will really work extra hard to continue to share all of our projects and home updates this coming year. 2021 has just been a crazy whirlwind of new – sometimes life just gets the better of you and we have definitely taken the time to revel in it all this year! We sure are loving on those sweet twins (who are now 7 months old!) and are new boutique space will be getting finishing touches the next few weeks. We cannot WAIT to share that story with you all. In the meantime, we hope to share a couple more Christmas posts, but don’t forget to pause in the hustle and bustle of the season and really take a quiet moment to take a look around you and count your blessings. We sure have this season. Even though this crazy year has been fast, full of firsts, frustrating at times and downright busier than ever, we are thankful to have our families, and all of our fabulous customers and clients.
