Well holy moly, did we have a ton of luck at garage sales this spring! We found some of the best furniture pieces for re-doing. Most of them were very beat up, which would require a lot of patching…but thats what we do best! This beautiful little french nightstand was one of Kristen’s favorite finds. It had beautiful curves and details that we knew we wanted to highlight.
(Ugh…just terrible before…)

This little beauty didn’t have anything major wrong, it just had a lot of scratches on the top. So we decided to sand it down to the raw wood with our electric sander to get them all out. After lightly sanding down the finish on the rest of the piece and wiping all the dust off, it was a quick two coats of Annie Sloan’s “Coco” to cover the whole piece. A pretty light brown color, “Coco”, is a fun new neutral we wanted to incorporate into our furniture inventory.
We then agreed to highlight the piece by hand-painting a custom color into the detailed parts that ran along the edges of the legs and sides. We mixed about 1 tablespoon of the “Coco” with 2 tablespoons of Annie Sloan’s “Old White” for the custom color. We then took a small paintbrush to brush the paint inside the indented details. This was kind of meticulous work so we kept a very lightly damp paper towel on hand in case the paint went outside the lines on accident!
The old hardware was in great condition but we didn’t think the color matched the piece very well, so we grabbed the leftover custom color and brushed on a coat over the handles.
Lastly we took some furniture wax to seal the entire piece, which gave the chalk painted french nightstand a gorgeous matte sheen.
This included brushing the wax over the handles to seal those as well. Sometimes this takes a bit of the paint off (especially if you only did one coat) but we liked the shabby affect it gave the handles!
For the reveal we were just going to set it up against a blank wall, but instead thought it would look gorgeous in Kristen’s bedroom which is all different shades of neutral with pops of coral.
This little nightstand made a gorgeous makeover with a very minimal amount of paint and looks so lovely as a bedside table.

This is a beautiful piece and I love the chalk paint applications. I used Coco a year ago on a similar dining room table and chair project with the same lines and I used Old White to highlight the lines, too. Great job. What a difference a little chalk paint makes!
