So I have to admit, TJ Maxx/Homegoods is probably one of my favorite places to shop for home decor. (When I’m not looking at auctions, garage sales or flea markets!) Whenever I have the extra time, I always have to stop in to see if there is anything new. I’m also one of those shoppers who, when I am actually looking for something I can never find it. And then when I just randomly stop in and don’t need anything, I find a whole cartload!
The new piece I created for my kitchen began with one of those random shopping trips to TJ Maxx. In fact, Vicki and I were in the check out line about ready to leave the store, when these two beautiful book ends caught my eye! And hello, they were on clearance! Needless to say, those were a no brainer and I knew exactly what I was going to do with them.
In my home, I like to decorate with vintage items or unique pieces not everybody will have. So instead of leaving them as bookends, I thought they would make the perfect corbels for a shelf! I even had the perfect spot in my kitchen to hang it!
In order to create a shelf, I just purchased a 1 inch think board and measured the width I would need to cover the entire top. My beautifully restyled kitchen has the theme of white and wood tones in it, mixed with some greenery. My painted kitchen table and chairs are also distressed so I decided to incorporate all of this into my shelf.
I painted the bookends-turned-corbels with my favorite off-white color I have throughout my home. I then distressed, quite heavily, but only on the raised areas.
All it took to attach the board and the bookends was a bit of wood glue and clamps. I also added some hangers onto the back of the corbels so it would be easy to hang on the wall.
That was it! I’m a huge fan of super easy DIY projects, and what is easier than glueing one thing to another?!
To style the shelf I knew I wanted to put part of my (small) Ironstone collection on top. I was actually running out of room on my counters to display some of the pieces, so I thought this would be perfect! I also added a ‘new’ piece…That wicker wrapped bottle was found at a local consignment shop for super cheap! I couldn’t believe it when I found the set of three in a back corner, but I’m pretty darn sure they are antique.
Then to tie in the rest of the kitchen I added the small topiary that I absolutely adore.
And thats that! Another simple DIY project can be checked off the list…and I didn’t even know I needed it! But I believe it fits wonderfully in my kitchen and dining space.

So pretty! I love how you chose to display your ironstone. I’m a huge fan of thrifting and have fun finds sprinkled throughout my home, as well. Great discovery on the wicker wrapped bottle!
