Hello again!
And welcome to another painted furniture makeover! We have been busy as bees this January getting some furniture pieces knocked out. Not only are we doing some for the shop, we have two custom pieces, as well as a piece for Vicki! Like I said, busy busy! One of the first items we picked was this pretty little french style dresser that was already “white” and gold. The white on it was super dirty and needed a much needed face-lift.
Here is the dresser before we gave it new life.
To start every furniture project we have a checklist of things to do before even dipping into the paint. First it is really important to clean your piece. Not only are you removing any gross dirt and dust, but you are making sure any oils, either from hands or polishers, are gone. Oils on a piece is one of the most common ways a piece won’t turn out the way you want. We use Fusion’s TSP Alternative cleaner. A TSP alternative that works amazing!
After cleaning is finished, take a medium grit sanding pad (Like THIS one) or paper and scuff sand your piece to rough up the surface. It doesn’t have to be a lot of sanding – literally two swipes over a spot and your done.
Pretty easy right! Of course if there is any fixing or holes/dents to fill you would obviously need to do that as well. This french style dresser only had a couple dings that we had to fill. Ultimately a very easy-to-prep piece! THIS is the wood filler we used.
Then it was on to the paint! We chose a color that neither of us had painted with before. A beautiful dusky rose color called Enchanted Echinacea by Fusion Mineral Paint. (Which you can now order online from us!) It wasn’t only a beautiful color, but the coverage was great, and Fusion Mineral Paint is one of the easiest paints to use. A very beginner friendly paint that not only goes on well, but has a built in top coat. Which means you don’t have to seal it! Yet the line comes with many different finishing products so you can achieve many different looks with each color.
For this dresser we really wanted this color to shine and planned on lining the drawers with floral paper so we didn’t want to go too fussy on the outside. So just two simple coats of paint, let it dry and we were done with the outside!
We then lined those drawers with the prettiest floral paper ever! The same we did for Kristen’s nightstands. We will do an in-depth post about how we line our drawers a bit later. It is literally so easy… and removable in case someone doesn’t like it, or your taste changes later on in life.
But for now, just take a look at how pretty that is!
It was quite a bold and different color for us, but we ended up loving how it all turned out! It would literally be the perfect dresser in a little girls room or nursery.

Thank you so much Michele! We are glad you love it! And painting a piece can give it a whole new lease on life! It is very addicting. Fusion (which you can get right on our site) is one of the easiest paints to use! If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
