Oh do we have a beautiful furniture makeover for you all today! This antique hutch has been sitting in my dining room unpainted for about 9 months already. I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with it because it was already in fairly good shape when I picked it up. My husband didn’t want me to paint it so I kept it as is for quite a while. Here is what it looked liked:

But a few weeks ago when we were getting ready to move I began to think about what I wanted this piece to look like in my new home. Pretty much everything in my new home is all oak – the floor, the trim, and every single cabinet and vanity. While I love the flooring and the trim I didn’t know if I wanted EVERY single item in my home all monotone wood. (If you haven’t seen the post of our new home – check it out HERE)

So the ideas started turning in my head! And I couldn’t get this color by Country Chic Paint out of my head! We had received it quite a while ago, but it is right along the line of my favorite color palette. I love pretty much every shade of aqua or teal imaginable and planned to incorporate more color into my new home so this bold color was perfect for my dining room. I knew my collection of Ironstone would really pop against this dusky tealish color!

It was a quick couple coats of paint on the top half, but I left the legs alone. I do love the two-tone look of wood and paint, but I was having a hard time decided exactly what to leave on this piece or not. I didn’t want to touch the inside since the white ironstone really popped against the wood, but I worried that leaving the inside AND the legs wood would be a bit too much going on since this piece was ornate. But I decided I could always just try it and paint later if I don’t like it.

And then I took the door off to paint, and I got more excited. While the ornate fretwork on the door is absolutely gorgeous I think that was the part that was making me second guess leaving the legs bare. Once the door was off and I got the first coat of paint on I loved the look of this hutch even more!

And I love how it turned out – adding in the Ironstone was the finishing touch to this piece! And I just had to set it up immediately after moving, not only because of how pretty it was but because my husband kept complaining about the MANY boxes of Ironstone we had packed and moved! Haha! I had to get those boxes out of our way quickly since they were taking up most of my dining room space.

For now the door will stay off, but I did keep it just in case I decide to put it back together. I love the look without it but my mind could always change in the future – you never know!
