Happy Fall everyone! The trees on the hills around here are really changing their colors and I have seen many bright orange and red this year. I love the changing of the seasons and the beauty of our Minnesota bluffs.
While my new home is still undergoing many changes and I have a bunch of decorating yet to do, I was able to decorate a tiny bit for one of my favorite seasons – fall! I realized as I was taking out my fall decor box that my new home is going to need A LOT more items for full decorating. I did a little shopping at one of my favorite stores – OURS, (hehe) and was able to add in a few more items to fully decorate my entryway.
Here is what my entryway looked like when we moved in. (To see the full house on move-in day go HERE.)
I had many ideas of what to do with this space before moving in and quickly snatched up one of my favorite dressers from our store. It had a gorgeous tiger oak top with a chippy gray bottom in one of my favorite styles – empire. I added it into the nook there for extra storage and a “dropping” place for when we used the front door. A little while later I randomly found EXACTLY what I was looking for in a bench – an old church pew! And I just love it! I was at an antique mall looking for a piece for someone else when I came across this one. After seeing it was about half the price of pews I had previously looked at I grabbed that tag so fast and slapped a Sold sticker on it you wouldn’t have had a chance against me to get it!
Doesn’t it look so stinking cute there? I love adding a cute throw and some pillows for fall on there. There is also room for storage below if I needed it. Right now I have a little wood crate with an extra blanket scarf for grabbing to sit out on the front porch in the mornings. The only thing about this pew is I am not sure about keeping it the color it is. What do you think? I have the same color oak EVERYWHERE in my house right now. It is quite monotonous. I thought about painting it and keeping it antique-y by doing some chippy milk paint, but I’m just not sure! I put up a poll on Instagram when I first got this and it was a split decision on what to do…
Anyway, back to decorating. It was easy to add some fun texture and coziness to the bench with throws and pillows but of course I had to have pumpkins in places as well! I added this large white one to the bench, and small branches of maroon ones in with fall leaves to my french market basket.
If you haven’t noticed yet, I think I have an obsession with old glass bottles and jars. You can definitely say I have a collection of them, along with my antique Ironstone. I don’t know why, but I just gravitate towards all kinds of different sizes, shapes and colors! Normally the large one on the floor sits in the middle of the dresser, but after finding a couple vintage amber jars while antiquing a couple weekends ago I added those in this space instead! The amber jars really add that warmth for fall.
Along with the amber jars, there is a lovely fall sign I made for our store in a similar hue above the dresser that I hung right over my small barn door piece that hangs year round.
I also added my the items we made for our “fall surprise box” in this vignette. I loved our box so much that I was gifted one for my birthday! The chunky green riser, green ticking stripe pumpkins, and small “hello fall” sign worked perfectly here. (My candle went elsewhere in my home where I can burn it more!) I am totally a fan of layering and adding multiple signs or plaques in the same area. I feel like you can never have enough of them!
Adding in a little bit of fall florals to the dresser top brings out more texture and lovely color to bring everything all together.
