Hey Everyone!
It feels good to be sitting down and writing a blog post again, getting some of my work done. We have had quite a busy and raucous last few weeks – not only by what has been going on with this global pandemic, but add in there being self isolated with a 2 and half year old while trying to pack and move houses. I had so much anxiety about trying to go in anywhere for closing on our new home, yet we had to! Luckily all the businesses are taking this pandemic very seriously and we were able to do our banking through the drive through window and were in the lawyers office for 10 minutes with only my husband, the lawyer and I in the room! It was amazing how well it worked out with everyone keeping their social distancing.
We were then able to move in right away while the weather was cooperating – so don’t mind the boxes that are scattered around the photos. I forgot to take pictures while it was completely empty! But without further ado…welcome to Kristen’s new home!
It’s a lovely cape cod style home situated in a little subdivision in the country. It has a beautiful wrap around front porch and a screen porch in the back that I fell in love with immediately.
When you walk in the front door a two story entryway greets you. I have always loved the look of a grand entryway and was thrilled that this house had one! There’s plenty of room for me to decorate with a bench and I am probably going to add a cute dresser in the alcove.
From the entryway you can either go straight through to the dining room and kitchen which is all open, or you can turn to the left and go into the family room. The family room has a natural burning fireplace and beautiful large windows all around! This will be where we are putting the TV and will be the “hangout” room.
I am pretty sure I will be doing some kind of painting or treatment to that fireplace since it looks a bit dull for me. And hopefully a new mantle. While it isn’t in my top priorities to get done right away, it will be happening for sure! Everything in the house is all oak, with oak knobs, oak trim and flooring. While that is really nice it is quite monotone for my taste. You will see this in the next room when we go to the kitchen and dining room space…
While I like oak, and this oak isn’t super orang-ey to me, I know I am going to be painting those kitchen cabinets. I need all that oak to be broken up and I want to go lighter and brighter in the kitchen. My husband already veto-ed the idea of painting all the trim – and I agree with him (at least for now!) but painting the cabinets is definitely going to happen.
Through those french doors in the kitchen is where the screen porch is and outside of that a small patio – perfect for summer grilling. But then off the dining room is another favorite of mine – what I will be calling the sun room. It has large windows on 3 sides and faces the backyard. It has beautiful light and stays bright all day. I picture this room with some french style chairs, maybe a settee, and overall just a comfy and cozy sitting room.
To the right of the house but still on the main level is the master bedroom, a bathroom for the first floor and the laundry room. The laundry room is large and has a door that leads out to the porch and garage from there. The master bedroom is a really good size but it will be used as a guest room until my daughter no longer needs comforting at night.
The bathroom is sort of like a “Jack-and-Jill” style with one door leading to the master bedroom and one door for everyone else to use. It has a nice linen closet inside and has the toilet and shower in separate room than the sinks. I am pretty darn sure I will be painting this vanity as well! Like I mentioned, there is just too much monotone oak for me…
And that is the full downstairs of my new home! There are 3 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, and a basement as well. We have already gotten a huge amount of boxes put away and plan to start projects hopefully soon. I don’t have a way to get wall paint, and I may keep it white for a while in order to decide what I want to do, but since I have been thinking of this house for the last two months I have decided on colors for the kitchen and the bathroom vanity! I am so excited.
If you don’t follow us on Facebook yet, definitely do! We will be sharing some videos on how to properly prep your cabinets and on painting them with Fusion Mineral Paint that we carry in our store and on our website. We hope to use this time at home together to get some projects done – and you could too! We are still offering non-contact porch pickups at the store OR we are going to continue our Free shipping on Fusion orders of over $100! Keep calm and ‘Paint it beautiful’ and stick around for our many home projects to come!
