Hello and welcome back to our Spring 2020 One Room Challenge series where we are making over Kristen’s Laundry room in her new house. We are so excited to be back as a guest blogger with the One Room Challenge and will be updating you on the progress every week for the next 6 weeks! If you missed the first week where we shared the before photos and our inspiration just click HERE to check it out.
So for this week we have a small update for you. It was a big item to check off the list but isn’t the most fun part of a makeover. We painted the walls!! Whoohoo! Added a little pop of color to the house. Every single wall in our home is currently painted a pretty off white that goes very well with the wood floor and trim. It looks great, but I wanted to add some color to the house and what better place to do that than in our laundry/mudroom?!
Since we have been self-isolating at home I found a couple cans of leftover paint from our old house and thought that maybe if I mixed a couple paints together I could find A.) a good mid-tone color and B.) Not have to go to a store during Covid-19 to purchase paint! So I came up with a custom mix color from a super light minty color that was used in our bathroom in our old house, and a dark aqua color that was also in our last home. I mixed it up and painted it on a small index card to make sure I liked it along with our trim. But….I got worried I STILL wouldn’t have enough paint. Ugh…
I didn’t want to start painting with my custom mix and then not have enough paint to finish. SO…I ran to my local True Value Hardware store where they were able to color match my custom mix for me! I was so happy. I didn’t have to go to a big box store, instead kept it local and got the color I loved! Bonus – how neat is that to have a custom color you personally mixed in your home! I love that.
So I got it all painted up pretty quickly and then let it sit for a week without doing anything else. And…..I’m not sold. I feel like it needs something more. So after much thought and many opinions I am definitely going to do the board and batten look! I did have a photo of a board and batten wall in my week 1 inspiration post but it is 100% going to happen now. It stinks that I did all that work of painting my walls when I now plan on changing half of it, but that’s alright! I wasn’t sure that was the look I wanted until I got it all done painted! Sometimes that’s how things work.
Here is the inspiration photo again:
I plan to do it a bit differently than this one. And I am not going to touch my trim. Luckily I saw another bloggers photo where she still did stained trim and white board and batten and it looked great. I am a very visual person so after I saw that photo I was completely sold on the idea.
So I will have to get some lumber and get started on that now! I am pretty darn excited for it which makes me feel great and that it is the correct route. I have a definite plan of getting that finished next and then starting on painting my cabinets. Whew! Still a lot left to do! I also received my rugs that I ordered for this room this week! You get a little peek at them from the photo below.
So stay tuned again to see what will be finished for next week!
