Hello and welcome to another Room Makeover series here at Timeless Creations! We are joining in with the One Room Challenge again this spring. If you haven’t heard of the One Room Challenge before find all the information about it HERE. Essentially there are 20 designers that are handpicked to makeover one room in their home in 6 weeks time. The creator of the One Room Challenge, Linda, generously allowed other home bloggers to join in as well the day after the designers to bring a huge collaboration of designers, small bloggers and DIY’ers.
We joined in a couple years ago to makeover Kristen’s kitchen in her new home. See those posts by clicking HERE.
This year we are focusing on Kristen’s master bedroom makeover!
It is in sore need of a makeover, but hasn’t been high on the list of things to re-do in her new house. The main living areas came first, but now she is itching to have a nice bedroom space.
The list is pretty darn long of everything that will need to be done, but first let’s take a look at the “before” pictures.
Here is the Bedroom Now
All the bedrooms in their ranch style starter-home are pretty small, but they chose this one for the master because of the large walk-in closet. Basically there is room for the bed, dresser and very small nightstands. It would be so amazing to have a spacious room complete with a little sitting area, but that just isn’t the case here. The many doors and one window pretty much leaves one space for the bed if they don’t want one side up against a wall. Therefore the only wall the bed fits on was accented in a pretty aqua color when they first moved in. (To make it easy, the first week after the house was purchased was “paint-every-single-wall-in-the-house week”).
Kristen’s home style is pretty much farmhouse with all the main living areas decorated with farmhouse touches, and her laundry room being made over in the farmhouse style as well. For her bedroom she is going to keep some farmhouse touches, but also bring in a more romantic feeling. She hopes to incorporate a French-Country style with little farmhouse touches that matches the rest of the home.
This photo from Soft Surroundings is a beautiful inspiration to Kristen and she hopes to incorporate some of this French Country style into her home – in fact, that bedspread was already purchased!
Ok, so now lets take a look at the great big long list of things that need to be done for this master bedroom makeover!
- Purchase new bedding
- Paint “new-to-me” dresser
- Find and makeover nightstands OR build nightstands
- Build a headboard
- New curtains or DIY curtains
- Make or purchase decorative pillows
- Rug for under the bed
- New Light Fixture (?)
- Paint hexagon wall hanging (Already have, just needs a makeover)
- Purchase a farmhouse riser for top of dresser from our Store (We LOVE our risers and plan to use them all throughout our homes!)
- Decorate
Luckily all of the hard work of painting was finished a couple years ago, so we won’t have to deal with that this go around. It would also be really nice to put wood floors in all of the bedrooms instead of the carpet, however, that is not really in the home improvement budget. It is hard to put a lot of money into a starter home when you may not get the return in your investment. Kristen and her husband live in a very tiny rural town and it might not be prudent to spend too much when they will be selling eventually. Improvements were already made in the kitchen and bathroom which were more pressing than the bedrooms.
Now to give you a better idea of what Kristen is going for, here are a bunch of bedrooms that have inspired her for the look she is going for in her own bedroom. (Sources are linked below the pictures)
When putting all of her ideas together using the inspirations and searching for different products that she likes, below is what Kristen’s mood board looks like! Like we mentioned before, she already purchased the quilt and will need to purchase a few other items as well to complete the look. We usually like to stick to a strict budget when doing room makeovers, but after saving up and having this master bedroom makeover coming for a very long time, she feels like she deserves to have a few nice things now! (Can you believe Kristen has not had a headboard for her bed for about 10 years!)

We are so excited to be bringing you all the fun for Kristen’s master bedroom makeover for the One Room Challenge this spring! We have not done a bedroom makeover yet and this is bound to be fun! However, we have some serious work to do. With 3 major furniture pieces to either build or makeover and a vacation at the beginning of this challenge we have our work cut out for us! But hey, don’t worry, we always manage to get it done!
We hope you follow along with our bedroom makeover here and all the other One Room Challenge participants to see all the wonderful room makeovers! Watch for next weeks post, we are jumping right into one of our furniture pieces!
