Hello again and welcome back to the Sunroom makeover over at Kristen’s house! We took on this 6 week challenge along with many other designers and bloggers for the One Room Challenge. It was our goal to get it finished up in time before winter so away we went during one of the busiest times of the year for our retail store! Oh my! But that’s alright, we will push forward.
This week’s post is not a very glamourous or exciting one, but one that needed to get done anyway. Way back in August when I decided this room definitely needed to be finished before the cold set in, I ordered some paint chips from Sherwin Williams to try to narrow down what I wanted. I literally went to their website and looked at their top colors and choose about 10 shades of light gray and beige to be sent to my home. Once I got them I brought them to my sunroom and put them up on one wall close to the trim of the windows so I could compare them all with color of the trim and floors in our home as well as the different lighting we get all day.
Here are my top three colors I had to choose from:
I literally took weeks to look at the paint swatches at different times of the day, and just kept narrowing it down one-by-one until only a couple were left. I took in different peoples opinions at different times of the day as well! Luckily at that time I wasn’t in a huge hurry to get it done so I could take my time and really look and decide.
The three colors all look pretty similar don’t they? Well I promise you that they do actually look quite different when you hold them up next to each other as well as in different lights in your room. We ended up choosing the middle swatch “Modern Gray” because it was a warmer gray than the other two. With the wood trim and floors as well as the furniture we thought this warmer gray color went really nicely. But Agreeable Gray is definitely one of Sherwin Williams most popular colors.
Here are a couple (very messy) before photos right before we painted.
I wanted to share these because in the photo on the right you can see how in some light the off white color of our walls before had a tinge of yellow to it. I did not like that at all. Its really bothering me in the bathroom as well…Also, my hutch that I need to redo will be going over on the righthanded side of that right photo. I’m excited for that hutch!!
And here is the “Modern Gray” going on the walls. It looks so dark next to that white!! But I promise it doesn’t darken the room at all. I’m very happy with it.
Next week I am hoping to get the desk chair redone and the hutch started. I need help to get the hutch to my house to work on so I might not be able to get it until next weekend, but I need to get going on it! Stay tuned!
