This past month we were honored to have been chosen for a fun furniture painting contest that was sponsored by Country Chic Paint for their new line of colors that were just added. “The Lustrum Collection” by Country Chic Paint contained 20 new colors so they, along with The Furniture Diaries ladies (search for them on Instagram, they are all amazing!) chose 20 furniture painters for the challenge. And we were one of them!
We were surprised that this contest gained so much attention in such a short period of time, as well as that we were one of the chosen 20 painters!
Then came the fun part…none of the 20 painters got to choose the color they wanted to work with. Country Chic randomly chose for us! We will be honest – it scared us a little bit to not have control over our color. We definitely have a comfort zone of neutrals, blues and some greens. But this line had super bright colors, like a yellow, burnt orange, bright red and even a brown. Some of these seemed scary, however our minds wouldn’t quit turning and we were brainstorming what we could do for virtually any of the colors while waiting for our package to arrive.
Some of you may have been following along with our Instagram stories this month, and you were the first ones to know what color we received! We ended up getting a neutral champagne color that was called “Pop the Bubbly”. It was absolutely gorgeous and we were a bit relieved to have a neutral. But while relief was what we felt, we then realized that even though this color was in our comfort zone, we had to find a way to make this neutral stand out!
In came Vicki’s brilliant plan – she always comes up with the best ideas when we are in a pinch! Her idea was to do a set. Do a full piece in the “Pop the Bubbly” and keep it the original color. Then bring these set of chairs that have beautiful detail that could be given a special treatment so we could show how the color looked with more of the Country Chic Product – in this case a glaze!
See – brilliant! We painted the washstand and both chairs in the “Pop the Bubbly” color then added the “Shimmer” glaze over the washstand to give it a pearlescent sheen. But over the chairs we used the “Slate” glaze to get in all the crevices of the details so they really stood out.
We then chose that beautiful, yet bold, patterned fabric that matched almost perfectly! However the backs are a plain gray fabric for a little bit of contrast. We do almost all of our upholstery work together which we have gotten quite good at working together on! And the oyster colored trim around the edges added even a bit more detail to these stunning chairs.
This set would be absolutely beautiful in a sitting room, or in a bedroom nook if you had a large enough master or guest bedroom.
We both had so much fun with this amazing challenge by Country Chic Paint. It was an awesome idea and we are so happy with all the support we received not only from Country Chic, but from the ladies from “The Furniture Diaries” and all of the other contestants. We “met” new people, and loved watching their own transformations with the color they received as well.
The artisan and painting community is truly amazing and super inspiring. Having a painting challenge like this really got the creative juices flowing! And doing the challenge wasn’t all about winning it either. Honestly just getting inspired and having the surge of respect, camaraderie and pushing ourselves was the best!
We had never tried Country Chic Paint before but we can truly say we liked it. It was similar to Annie Sloan’s Chalk paint as far as thickness goes, but the glaze was super easy to apply to the piece. We also really liked the natural wax. It glided on very easily and get a nice satin-y sheen. It was very pretty. We are excited to continue using and trying the different colors and products of Country Chic on upcoming furniture.
We hope you enjoyed following along with us on this furniture painting journey! If you missed our stories – run over and follow our Instagram page and/or Facebook page so you can follow along with us day-to-day from now on!
