Hello and welcome to another $100 Room Challenge! Yes, We are once again going to do a $100 Room Challenge….. We absolutely adore joining in with Erin of Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry who hosts this fun yet difficult challenge twice a year! We have done quite a few of these, and just love what everyone comes up with using only $100 with a time limit of 1 month.
See our other $100 Room Makeovers HERE. Otherwise we are bringing the makeover to Vicki’s house for this go around!
I have a small half-bathroom on the first floor of my home (what used to be called a “powder room”) because it does not contain a tub or shower. While the basics are already in place – a vanity, flooring and wall color that I am happy with, I really need more storage space. The vanity looks like it has plenty of storage, but it does not as only one drawer is actually an operating drawer. The other two, along with the cabinet area seen as doors, are faux. This is because the vanity is actually built over the top of the staircase leading to the basement. And while this gave us a small bathroom on our first level, it definitely did not give us enough storage space.
The plan for this bathroom as part of the $100 room challenge is to:
- Put a new, DIY-built cabinet above the stool in the bathroom. I already have a smallish window that I want to use to build a cabinet with.
- Bring in some type of shelving, whether a wall hung cabinet, wall hung shelf, or a tiered tray to sit above or on top of the left side of the vanity. This will replace the beachy, seahorse I currently have in that area. (I am soooo getting away from the beachy theme! It doesn’t really match the theme of the rest of my house!)
- Finally, I am planning to replace the décor that is currently in the bathroom. I plan to bring in a bit of greenery, either in a small live plant or boxwood. I also plan to replace the towel hook, towels, and soap dispenser if the budget allows!
So…. I am going to need to purchase a small amount of lumber to build the window cabinet, which I estimate will cost $20 or less. Remember I already have a window that I picked up at a garage sale perhaps a year or so ago.
I also have an existing small wood cabinet with a closed door that I could paint and use on the wall above the left side of my vanity. I haven’t decided yet on an item for that space since I want to see if it is going to look ok to have two cabinets! It may be overwhelming, in which case I may need to build or purchase a shelving unit or tiered tray for that space.
Lastly, I plan to update my décor in the bathroom completely. As always, I plan to “shop” my home first to see if I find items I am not currently using or that I may want to switch out from another room. I believe most of my budget could go towards the purchase of décor items since I would really like to have a new soap dispenser, towels and a towel hook. Stay tuned to see just which items I choose!
Here are some sample pictures I found that I am using as inspiration for my tiny bathroom makeover.

We are absolutely loving this color palette right now! I already have the brown tones in my bathroom but we want YOUR opinion? Do you think we should do an accent wall in teal? maybe the wall above the vanity? Or should we just accent with the teal colors in our decor items? Let us know your thoughts!!!
We are really excited for this challenge and can’t wait to have you follow along with us! See what room everyone else is doing for this round of the $100 Room Challenge by clicking through the links below! See you next week!

YAY!!! I’m so glad you are taking on another challenge! We had a powder room with ZERO storage… Pedestal sink… no shelving. It was terrible! Excited to see how you end up redoing this space. And I vote teal accent wall!

Another bath makeover. I love all your ideas and hope that I can also pull off an update with limited funds. I’ve already started to shop the house and am working on a few DIY ideas. This is always such a fun challenge and well worth it. Looking forward to seeing all that you do in this space.

I’ve always thought this would be a fun challenge to do but always think there is just no way $100 is enough for any room in our house. I love the color palette inspiration. I tend to paint walls (and accent walls)… but in the long run it’s often easier to stick with a neutral wall color because it does make it so much easier to change up later. Good luck!!
