Hey friends and followers! I was playing around with my new decor from our Timeless Creations Boutique the other day and decided it may be a handy post to share with all of you! When I took down all of the winter decor in January this hutch in my sitting room was sitting half empty for quite a while. With all of the other projects going on around my home and at the boutique I just didn’t find the time to get to redecorating it. It happens, and it didn’t bother me. But now I am happy to see it finally getting a little love with some different decor for spring and summer.

When decorating inside a hutch there are different guidelines that we like to follow for a great stylish look.

• Texture
• Different Colors
• Different Heights
• Greenery – either faux or real.
• Mixture of New and Old

Texture – It is always a great idea to have different textures when creating vignettes or decorating in general. In this hutch I have smooth textures from the antique pitchers, some woven texture from the wrapped bottles and the market basket on the side. There is also a mixture of glass and metal in there as well. Some items are distressed which also helps to add a bit of texture.

Different Colors – While the hutch itself is a neutral, it is still a fairly bold deep charcoal gray with a greige interior. The colors I added aren’t super bright or wild or anything, in fact, they all go together very nicely, but I spaced them out so they are nicely arranged. See all the white pitchers, a couple on top, and a few on the inside spaced apart. They aren’t even all the same color of white if you were to look closely. And it works great! There are elements of brown from the top crate, to the woven bottles inside. As well as soft aqua in the glass bottles. And lastly, you can never go wrong with some hints of elegant black in the fern pot, the old books, and the clock.

Different Heights – This is a big one, especially if you have a large area to decorate. Different heights are so important. You can see different heights on top of the hutch with the pitchers, as well as the different heights in the vignette on the other side. Inside of the hutch we utilized one of our handmade risers to give height to a “house plaque”. We also used old books on the right side of the hutch not only for their color, but one book laid flat adds height to the pitcher on top, and the other two books stand up and help with all of these elements we have talked about – height, color, and texture!

Greenery – Some form of greenery is absolutely needed almost everywhere in the home! Seriously we believe you can’t have enough. (And it’s a super simple item to change up for the seasons) Whether you prefer faux foliage or real, it doesn’t matter. I have a mixture of both, but usually I’m terrible at keeping plants alive, so I do have quite a bit of faux greenery as well. Vicki and I are both loving these faux ferns from our boutique. We have a few different kinds of potted ones as well as just stems that would be perfect for adding in vases. I have a mixed floral spring pot on top of the hutch as well which brings in some really pretty spring pinks too. These little pots we made and have many different kinds at the boutique. Then in my market basket outside of the hutch I have some pretty lambs ear and some faux peonies for spring.

Mixture of Old and New – This one is personal preference! This is actually how Vicki and I like to decorate our homes. We mix and match old, antique items – like the antique ironstone, old bottles, crates, and the books and put them together with new items – like the ferns, greenery, riser, flowers and plaques.

And there you have it! Just some little guidelines that I hope help you in decorating your own hutches and homes! And don’t forget to have fun and play with it. We rearrange items all the time until we find the perfect arrangement.
