It’s time to reveal the full nursery from Kristen’s house for her twin boys who will be here before we know it! The room was fairly blank to begin with, so there were quite a few items we needed to get together to make it a nursery. If you missed out on the first couple posts all about the plan and the dresser makeover you can check them out by clicking through the links below.
Twin Boys Nursery Plan / How to Paint over Chalk Paint – Nursery Update
But let’s take a look at the room before we started as well as the plan to fully makeover the room for a twin boy’s nursery.
Like I mentioned – Pretty blank! And easy to get started.
Here was the plan for the babies room:
- Paint the walls
- Purchase a second crib
- Paint the Dresser
- Add glider
- Find/Purchase Side Table
- Purchase Lamp for Table
- Make Wall Shelves
- Decorate
- Organize closet
- Curtains (? – I have a terrible time finding curtains I actually like, so we will see how this one goes)
We started with painting the entire room with a beautiful gray color called “Agreeable Gray” by Sherwin Williams. I ordered a swatch from Sherwin Williams and then got it color matched to Behr paint as it is usually cheaper but is still a really great paint. It is pretty much the perfect gray, doesn’t have any gross purple or pink undertones and matches well with beiges as well without being too tan looking.
After the walls were painted, I decided to change up the look of my daughter’s old dresser. It was a great, sturdy dresser that worked perfect to double as a changing table, but the white was looking dingy and I wanted a fun color for the boys’ room. Since it was previously painted and waxed for sealant there were a couple extra steps I had to take to get it ready for paint. But I certainly documented it all in last weeks post about “How to Paint over Chalk Paint“! While not difficult, it is crucial to prep the piece correctly in order for your new paint to adhere. Check it all out HERE.
And it turned out so adorable! It was painted in Fusion’s “Homestead Blue” but with a specialty finish over the top to deepen that blue color. We did this exact look on an antique vanity not long ago – HERE is that tutorial on exactly how to get that finish.
Over in the corner, we created the wall shelves just by cutting down a 5/4 pine board into 2 foot sections, staining them and attaching them to some cute brackets. This style of shelf is super easy to create as long as you have a way to cut them.
We had already purchased the glider/recliner before we knew we were having twins, which only one of us will be able to use at a time. I really have no idea how nighttime feedings will actually go, but we purchased this recliner to match elsewhere in our home too, so if it ends up not getting used as much as I thought we will be able to move it downstairs for extra seating there! We will see how it all goes.
I was able to find a cute and small side table as well! For someone who transforms furniture for a living, it is really hard for me to purchase a cheaper piece that isn’t real wood. I really struggled with finding a side table! I warred with myself on just waiting to find a piece that needs a makeover, but decided I was running out of time and didn’t want the added stress of a makeover so late in my pregnancy. It was getting harder and harder to paint furniture anyway as I got bigger, that I decided on the little gray side table from TJ Maxx & Homegoods to make it easier on myself. It works really well in the room and has a nice drawer for storing extra pacifiers and burp rags.
The lamp on top as well as the rug in front of the cribs were also Homegoods finds! It was a pretty successful shopping trip that day.
I don’t know why, but once that second crib got put up in the room, it became more real that the Twins were almost here. My husband still tells me “I can’t believe we are having twins”! I added matching blue muslin sheets to them for some more color which matches fairly well to their blue dresser as well.
The boys’ also got some super cute sleeping gowns to come home in as well. I just couldn’t pass up these cute little knotted gowns! The colors were beautiful and I got matching personalized fuzzy blankets as well. We aren’t ready to reveal the names we have picked out for the babes yet, so that is why the blankets aren’t around and why there aren’t any decor items on the wall above the cribs either. 🙂
Ooooh! And I found curtains I liked! Curtains are one of the most difficult items for me to purchase. I am just so indecisive on them for some reason! But I was looking all over for curtains for my daughters room that when I came across these from Target I thought they went really well with the look of the nursery. I don’t necessarily need curtains as I have very nice blinds on all my windows, but I just like the soft ambiance, texture, and style they bring to a room. Seriously, curtains add a lot to a room.
I really wish I could have found a new light fixture for this room though. Actually all of the bedrooms upstairs have these outdated fans in them. They really all need new ones. Ceiling fans are just not my favorite type of light fixture, but our rooms do get a little hot in the summertime and we did use them last year. So, I am leaning towards getting new fan light fixtures for all bedrooms, but just didn’t find anything I quite liked yet. I didn’t want to just quickly find something for the sake of this room makeover, but instead will take my time and get something I really like.
And there is our twin boys’ nursery makeover! I just love it, it is so cozy and cute (not that it will stay that way for long!) But it makes my mama self very happy and more ready for these babes to come. Wish my little family luck with these two new additions. Life may be crazy here for a while! But that’s alright, I know we will make it through and will be so blessed with these two little boys.
