After moving into our first home, of course the first thing to be set up is our coffee bar!
If you can believe it, this pretty little sideboard didn’t always look this fabulous. We already gave it a makeover and were previously using it as a TV stand in our small duplex. This is what it looked like before:
And after the makeover, this is how we used it in our rental. It didn’t really work the best as a TV stand, but that was the only space we had room for it!

As soon as we found this house and were seriously thinking about purchasing it, I knew the perfect place to put my little sideboard. I had always thought it would make the perfect accent as a coffee bar ever since it was finished. Since my husband and I are coffee fiends, we decided it was finally time to utilize it how I pictured!
In our little ranch house we just purchased the kitchen and dining area are all in one. (If you missed all the before pictures, check out our new house here!) There is plenty of space for a medium sized table, and right across from the table area, there was a big blank wall. That wall would be perfect for a hutch, buffet, or sideboard. So we decided to add the coffee bar there.
We centered it perfectly on the wall and hung my large wall mounted drying rack above. (Update: The link is where I purchased mine but they no longer carry it. HERE is a very similar one!) Then I took our vintage teacups I got from my grandma and mother-in-law, along with plain white mugs and added them to the drying rack in an ombre pattern.
I knew I wanted to have a tray to put our coffee pot on to protect the stained top of the sideboard so I picked up this little chippy tray on sale! I’m loving the look of it and you can’t do much better than half off! I am also starting a collection of Ironstone and this space was the perfect spot to show off a pitcher.
My sideboard also offers the perfect storage for all of our coffee needs. All the travel mugs are underneath, along with the grinder, french press, and milk frother. In the drawer is where we keep the filters and bags of coffee beans.
I also have quite the collection of glass jugs and bottles. I didn’t know that I had that many until I was unpacking them all and thought, “Oh, where am I going to put all of these!”. So I added some Eucalyptus to my large jug along with some flower stems to add more to the corner.
I’m so excited to have this little space and even though it is set to the side of the kitchen, my husband loves it too!

I love that rack too. But unable to find it on your link! Where did you find this rack for the coffee area?
Kristen & Vicki says
Oh I am so sorry! I got this one many years ago and I don’t think they carry it anymore. Here is a link to a similar one. I think it just isn’t quite as tall as mine shown. Thanks Melanie!

What a fun little space! The little sideboard piece you refinished looks perfect there – I love that it has storage. I set up a little coffee/hot chocolate area this winter on a side table and I’m wishing it had some storagel May just have to start looking at yard sale finds, right?
And those fun monograms! I’d say they are probably my favorite thing about your set up.
Kristen & Vicki says
Yup! Definitely watch those yard sales! And don’t underestimate a piece, if you have the will to fix it, it can be done! I agree, the storage from this piece is absolutely perfect 🙂

Thank you Eilis! Not only is the tray pretty, its functional! I spill water all the time when adding it to the coffee maker! More protection on that top, the better!
