Boring old orange, turned charcoal stunner!

I’ll admit, sometimes it is difficult to decide just what to do to transform a piece of furniture. Some pieces really speak to Vicki and I and we know exactly what color or what hardware we want to use. For this piece, it took us some back-and-forth to finally decide the perfect shade!

 

To begin I wanted to go bold with bright blue chippyness, but Vicki wasn’t sold. So we took a step back and a gray was suggested, but do we go light? What kind of extra finish? Instead of just hurrying and slapping some paint on this piece, we waited it out until we decided.

Then we remembered our can of “Graphite” chalk paint that still sat unopened on our shelf…ding ding ding – that was it! Oooh boy did we get excited then – which is what you want! You want to be excited about re-doing something, or it won’t come out the way you want it to. At least that’s what we believe!

But we didn’t stop with just that dark charcoal color. We had those beautiful handles in our stock of hardware and once we tried them up next to the painted drawer we knew it was a match! We really like the antique looking ornate styled handles, we just believe it gives the piece a little extra special touch.

 

And just you wait until you see what we did next!

We took a beautiful aqua chalk paint and painted the sides of the drawers. Oooh that aqua and dark charcoal looked stunning together! Then we went through stencil after stencil trying to decide what would look good on this piece. Finally we found the perfect one and after some discussing decided it should NOT be put on in a pattern. But instead randomly, with parts of the stencil going off the drawer. I don’t know why, but my brain kept telling me to figure out a pattern – but Vicki knew it would look great random! And she was right 🙂

Oh! And I almost forgot! Just like with our small teal washstand where we had to make a DIY pediment for the lip on the back we had to do the same with this piece! Instead of making a large one we wanted to go sleek like the rest of the dresser, and thought we had enough details with the drawers and handles. So we cut a 1 x 3 board to the dressers width, rounded the edges and painted it to match. It fit and looked perfect!

 

We are so happy with how this one turned out in the end. The dark color is absolute perfection, but the surprise when you open the drawers is just plain fun! We can’t wait to see who takes this one home!
