For quite a while now, I have been waiting to find the perfect little piece for my living room wall. Actually…I can say that I have been looking ever since we moved to the house. An entire year has flown by since then, and my living room walls have remained pretty blank. And boring. And un-finished like.
While I don’t let these things bother me because I like to wait until I find that perfect piece for my home; I finally gave myself a deadline because I wanted to do a photo shoot in my living room. (See that Spring Decorating Inspiration post HERE!).
So I began searching online for a piece of decor…
…and searching at TJ Maxx whenever I got the chance…
…but I just couldn’t decide on something!
Usually when I find a unique piece, I just KNOW I have to have it. I usually beeline right to it, and know exactly what or where it should go. And that just wasn’t the case for this wall for a whole year! Until now! After all that searching, I went to our basement (where I do a lot of painting and crafts) and saw those two corbels just glaring at me.
An idea popped into my head, and I FINALLY knew what to do with those architectural pieces! I was so excited! I had had those chippy pieces for about 2 and half years – and they had just been moved from place to place, not really having a purpose. While I loved them, I never really loved how I had been using them.
But now they are perfect! All I did to create these was to cut a scrap piece of 1 x 6 board, stain them with my favorite color (See what I used HERE), then nail it into place with our finishing nailer. Ummm, seriously, can it get any easier! And now I have two corbel wall sconces that work perfectly for my living room wall!
I don’t know why I hadn’t thought about this before since I made a similar piece of decor for my kitchen by making a Wall Shelf out of bookends. But that’s alright, I can always wait for that perfect piece for my home 🙂
