What’s your favorite style? Are you in the farmhouse style kick right now? Or maybe French? Modern? MCM? Whatever your style, I feel you can always appreciate a beautifully painted piece that seriously epitomizes how wonderful that style can be.
Here is the boring finish of the before:
This awesome dresser once had one of those old blonde finishes on it. It was like a mask, you could barely see how gorgeous the wood underneath it was. It was in impeccable condition however, so we brought it home despite it’s blonde bearing.
Vicki and I are not really refinishers, we CAN do it, we just don’t particularly like it. We are painters! However, we love the look of stained wood mixed with paint. So whenever we see the potential in a piece to strip the top, or leave some part of the pretty wood grain we try to!
I wasn’t exactly sure what we would find under all that blondish exterior, but once that topped was stripped we were so thrilled! We found what looked to be beautiful oak underneath! My goodness – what luck! We knew the dresser was solid wood, but we couldn’t believe how gorgeous it ended up being!
So we stained the entire top with one of our favorite medium stains. And of course sealed it with many coats to make it super smooth.
The bottom then got painted in a pure white color (no creamy white for this piece)! We loved the full coverage we got with our paint, and didn’t want that blondish finish to come out so we decided not to distress.
While I wished I had a place for this piece in my own home, we knew it wouldn’t take much time at all for it to find it’s forever home. She sold pretty quickly and went to a lovely home where we know she will be appreciated!
We could not be happier with how this makeover went! It was in such nice condition it barely had any prep work (Which I LOVE!) haha! Even though prep work is so important, it is my least favorite part.

Love it! Can you give me the names of the paints and stains you used on this project?

We are offering Free Shipping on our website for any Fusion Mineral Paint orders totaling over $100 during this very strange “pandemic time”. Good luck with your projects!

Hi! I absolutely love this remodel. I was hoping to share this on my upcoming blog post(www.everafternames.com) and link back to you. Would this be okay with you? Let me know!

Hi! This looks beautiful! Question for you, you mentioned in the post you used pure white but you linked an off white color which is also really pretty, did you use the fusion color?
Kristen & Vicki says
Hi Emily! You are absolutely RIGHT! I had the incorrect link there. So sorry about that! We used Fusion Picket Fence on this one (which is now linked correctly) on this piece. We used Raw Silk on a almost identical piece which was also gorgeous. If you want pure white I would go with picket fence if you want an off white with just a hint of cream go with Raw Silk.
Thank you Emily!

LOVE the makeover! Did you poly the white part of the dresser? And how much sanding is involved over the whole piece? Thank you!
Kristen & Vicki says
Hi Julie! We always scuff sand (about 2 quick swipes with 120 grit sand paper) prior to painting with ANY type of furniture paint. You do not need to get the preexisting finish off, just need to add a little “tooth” for the paint to grip to! The top of this one is stained though which required a complete sanding all the way down to the bare wood with our orbital sander. That took a while! We did NOT poly the white of this one since Fusion Mineral Paint comes with a built in topcoat. But you certainly CAN add a poly or the Fusion product Tough Coat or wax for extra protection.

I really like this look! What medium stain did you use for the top? It listed dark walnut but it does not look like the stain on it in the picture. Just curious because I would like to try this. Thanks
Kristen & Vicki says
Hi Jodi, Yes this is “dark Walnut”, only one coat. It really depends on the wood type that you have that can determine how dark it becomes. I believe this top was Oak, the stain goes deep into the wood which makes it appear a bit lighter. Always try a sample board if you are wondering how it will look. But different types of wood or if you have a veneer top will take stain colors differently.

Thank you for your helpful information.

Did you sell this? What would you sell if for if it only had 4 drawers?
