Hello faithful followers! We are so excited to share about a new phase for Kristen and her family. They are moving! Not far at all, but to their next home, one that they just couldn’t pass up when it came for sale. As soon as they viewed the home everything happened so quickly! They don’t close until next month, but in before we show you the new house we wanted to share Kristen’s current home that we spent a lot of time updating almost everything.
Here is the recap from Kristen’s little ranch starter home.
Kristen and her family really loved living in their small town of Eitzen. Everyone in town was very welcoming and always willing to help out. It was fun to get to know our neighbors (which had never happened before!) While it will be sad to leave, they are very excited for their new chapter in a new home that ticks off many of their “dream home” qualities.
Before moving into their starter home, the first week after closing was dedicated to painting almost everything in the upstairs! Walls, the trim, the kitchen cabinets. Yup, it was a lot of painting! There are many different posts about the kitchen makeover since it was finished in stages, but to begin with take a look at what it looked like before paint in THIS POST.
After painting all the cabinets and the hardware and redecorating, they had to take a bit of a break with the kitchen renovation as their baby daughter arrived that summer. But when they were able to resume work on the kitchen new countertops and a subway tile backsplash made a huge statement!
You can also see the full reveal and breakdown of how we did all the renovations on a budget in THIS POST. It was so much fun and so very satisfying to makeover the kitchen on a budget while still getting what they wanted.
Another room that got quite a makeover was the laundry room! Kristen absolutely LOVED that the laundry room was on the main floor. It was so helpful not to have to haul laundry up and down the stairs! This makeover was the first one we did for the $100 Room Challenge. That’s right! We did the entire makeover with only $100! And what a challenge that was. It was all about reusing items we already had, or DIY’ing almost everything. We already had paint, and the majority of the budget was spent on the wood for the shiplap wall, and the built in around the machines and the utility sink. Our Utility Sink makeover is still our most popular post on our website! It has hundreds of thousands of re-pins on Pinterest!
While the living room didn’t get a huge makeover since it mainly just needed paint as an update, we had a great time figuring out how to decorate the space.
The next makeover was in Kristen’s master bedroom. (See the before HERE) Again, paint went a long way in this makeover, but a cozy rug, new light fixture and furniture made this makeover special. Before they began work on their bedroom, Kristen and her husband had never had a headboard. So we made one of course! See that post HERE. They had mismatched nightstands (In fact, Kristen’s husband’s was an old kitchen barstool!) So we also created new nightstands out of an old vanity that was falling apart.

The final major makeover of the home was the main bathroom. While it was a small bathroom, it needed a major item redone – the bathtub. HERE is the Before post. The main goal to this renovation was that darn painted bathtub. We also needed some kind of a medicine cabinet to store our toothbrushes, contacts, lotion, unsightly items that you don’t really want to have sitting out, but need on a daily basis. The light fixture was updated when we moved in, but almost all the other decor is new. It has been very refreshing to get the bathroom completely finished!
Kristen’s family absolutely loved their first home and they hope the next person who lives here loves it just as much!
