Happy New Year and welcome to another $100 Room Challenge! We are so fortunate to have been a part of this blogger challenge from the beginning! It was a year ago now that our friend, Erin, from Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry invited some blogger friends to take on this challenge along with her! And from there it has exploded! She was just recently featured on the Rachel Ray Show and a local Minneapolis show called “The Jason Show”.
The Challenge is pretty self explanatory – you get $100 to makeover one room in your home. This usually means reusing items you have, or DIY’ing projects!
Last year we made over Vicki’s Bathroom as well as her Living Room. For the next month we will be moving it over to Kristen’s house and making over her laundry room!
On to my laundry room! It isn’t a large room, but it’s at least on the first floor and has some storage. Here is a picture of what it looked like when we moved in to our house last February.
And here is what we are working with today!
As you can see all we have done to it is change the appliances, and add a couple items to the wall. Pretty boring! Luckily it doesn’t need any major changes (Yay!) but it could definitely use some sprucing up. I thought it would be perfect for this $100 Room Challenge!
I’m hoping to make it over into a more farmhouse style laundry room to match the rest of my house. Something along the lines of the inspiration pictures below.

And here is my (rather large) list of items I would like to accomplish for this months challenge.
- Add a Shiplap feature wall (faux shiplap of course)
- Paint the cabinets
- Paint the trim
- Build a folding counter
- Do…something…for around the utility sink (I know…what a plan!)
- DIY a light fixture
- Decorate
The budget may prove tricky since I have quite a few building materials I will need to buy. But I do have leftover paint from my Kitchen Makeover I plan to use for the cabinets and hopefully the shiplap. And almost all of the decorations are going to have to come from around the house, luckily I have some ideas already!
Well, we have a lot of work to get to for this $100 Room Challenge! We hope you stay with us until the end, but for now, have a peek at all the other rooms the rest of the Challengers are taking on! (Links are below) It’s going to be a fun month!

Hi Kristen,
Your laundry room looks like mine but a little better. lol Maybe I’ll tackle that room next. I love the look you’re going for and it seems super doable. Can’t wait to see it.

I’m always jealous of laundry rooms with actual walls. Mine is in a creepy basement with cinderblock walls. 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you do with the space!

I am excited to see how it turns out! I am checking out all the laundry rooms I can because I sure hope I can get me one built. My washer and dryer are in the basement and I don’t mind that but I want walls. I want separation from the dirtiness of a husbands workshop. I want to decorate!
