The End is Near!
I can’t believe it is Week 5 of my very first One Room Challenge where we have been making over my kitchen! This fun challenge is hosted by Linda from Calling It Home and includes all kinds of bloggers taking on every space imaginable. Even though the kitchen was a lot of work, we have definitely enjoyed transforming it!
If you missed out on any of the past updates you can find them here:

Let’s take a peek back at the space we are working with:

This week, we got a cold spell…wah wah…That has put a hold on painting the windows. So I still have white trim and reddish-brown windows. Weird I know. Hopefully it will get done soon! In the meantime, I have been doing a little shopping to gather all my items I want to decorate with!
Ok, that’s been super fun! I have made so many trips to TJ Maxx/Homegoods between this kitchen and my little girls nursery getting finished it isn’t even funny.
So let’s take a look back at my inspiration for this kitchen makeover.
Almost all of the items on my mood board were things I already had on hand. The tray, tobacco baskets, metal drying rack, dough bowl, and rug all came from the old house. I have just started to collect Ironstone and have acquired a few pitchers and a pot. I plan to use these as decor on my counters. Maybe with some greenery or flowers in them.
As for the items I bought, I needed a new wreath to go over a wooden piece on my wall. The new hand towels weren’t exactly needed…but the color matches my color scheme in the house so I just had to grab them. 🙂 I have always loved woven placemats and when I found they were half off I couldn’t help myself! But I had previously planned on getting placemats to help protect my newly painted table anyway.
Shop: Table Runner / Placemats / Wreath (Similar) / Small Topiary / Hydrangea
I also knew I wanted to balance the area out between wooden and metal pieces. In the dining area I already had both, so I needed to add them to the kitchen itself. In came that pretty metal “Farmer’s Market” Sign. (Shown in our Mood Board above) I had my eye on it for a long time, and finally pulled the trigger and bought it for my new kitchen!
Let’s take a peek at what we have left to do in the kitchen.
Paint all kitchen cabinets (inside and out)Update paint color on wallsPaint trim whitePurchase new shelving to replace warped shelves in cabinetsCut new shelves to fit cabinetsKnock down scalloped wood piece above sinkNew light above sinkInstall pendant lights in bulkhead above peninsulaPaint Kitchen Table- Find new chairs for Kitchen Table
Build/Find Bench for Kitchen Table- Paint the Windows – (If weather permits)
- Decorate
Well the bulk of it is done! We worked a ton at the beginning while I had a lot of helpers and it definitely paid off. We have been having cooler weather lately every time my husband has a chance to paint the windows which has put that on hold. But I wanted to put my curtains up anyway!
(We have curtains up, but no painted windows yet!)
And good news! Pretty much right after I was complaining last week that I couldn’t find dining chairs I liked, Vicki and I made a stop at Goodwill, and Voila! I found a set of four sturdy wood chairs for $8 a piece! I couldn’t pass that price up! So I snatched them, and now have to fill a few spots and then paint them. More work…of course! That’s alright though 🙂
Next week we have the final reveal of my new kitchen! You won’t want to miss it!

Things are moving right along! I really like the collection of white ironstone pitchers and also the white, sheer curtains. Your kitchen makeover is going to be beautiful.
