This has been such an exciting makeover series with Linda from Calling It Home and all of the other guest participant bloggers. We all got 6 weeks to take one room in our homes and completely revamp it. If you missed out on our beginning stages, see our kitchen makeover journey here:
Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3 / Week 4 / Week 5 / Week 6 (This post)
This is what we started with. Brown stained cabinets and yellow walls. The tile floor was in great condition but was not working well with the brown of the cabinets. The goal was to lighten and brighten the entire room! We came up with a list of everything I wanted to change, then got right to work with the help of my wonderful family.
Without further ado, here is what my kitchen looks like now! (Be ready for a ton of pretty pictures!)
I just can’t believe how much of a difference the white cabinets made to transform this space. Painting cabinets, especially in the kitchen, is time consuming, but oh-so-worth-it in the end! And the yellow is gone!
This little area above, is what I call my baking center 🙂 I have my mixer, cake pans, pie pans, baking ingredients, and fancy china all in those cupboards.
And to the left of my baking center is our coffee bar. This was a hand-me-down sideboard from my husbands family, and was ready to be thrown away before I got my hands on it! This was the first area we set up in our kitchen; as my husband would say ‘Coffee = life’ !
Our kitchen space has an eat-in dining area, which also got the same farmhouse makeover. I painted the table, constructed a bench at 7 months pregnant, and last minute, found those wonderful chairs at Goodwill for $8 a piece. This last weekend they got a quick couple coats of paint just in time for the makeover reveal!
We just love having those new pendant lights as well. It adds extra light into our kitchen when cooking, not to mention they are super cute!
One thing I loved about our kitchen makeover, was that it was done with a relatively cheap budget. It was pretty much paint, new shelves, lights, and a few decor pieces here and there, besides the chairs. Most of the items on the walls and counters were all pieces I had already!
Lets take a peek back at the entire “To-Do” list that got us to this beautiful kitchen.
Paint all kitchen cabinets (inside and out)Update paint color on wallsPaint trim whitePurchase new shelving to replace warped shelves in cabinetsCut new shelves to fit cabinetsKnock down scalloped wood piece above sinkNew light above sinkInstall pendant lights in bulkhead above peninsulaPaint Kitchen TableFind new chairs for Kitchen TableBuild/Find Bench for Kitchen TablePaint the Windows– (If weather permits)Decorate
And we even added painting the kitchen chairs to the list! Whew! I can’t believe we pulled it all off!

Seriously loving what you did! I am SO tempted to repaint all our cabinets… I just need to find the time. You did a beautiful job… Two questions: 1.) What color did you paint the walls and 2.) Where did you find those gorgeous dark purple tulips?
Kristen & Vicki says
Thanks Erin! The power of paint is great! The color for the walls is called “Parisian Taupe” by Behr. We have that in the living room and hallway too. Just beautiful! And the purple tulips came with the new house! I was pleasantly surprised to see them pop up this spring!
